Our first climb in Eldo - Wind Ridge on The Wind Tower, aptly named as it was quite windy.
Kevin, who I met at REI, climbs in Eldo all the time
finishing up the 2nd pitch
The Bastille Crack on The Bastille. One of the most popular rock climbs in the world, and the second most popular in Eldorado for accidents. You can see two climbers on pitch 3. This is on our must do list of climbs, as soon as we get back to Eldo.
As I lead this climb, Calypso, in a cold drizzle, my thoughts are on the bad rep this pitch has. From the guidebook - "The park rangers reckon P1 to have more accidents than anywhere else in the Canyon. The traverse at the end of P1, once protected by some old pins, is now difficult to protect and pretty polished. A fall by the leader from the end of the traverse can result in a nasty swing back into the dihedral. Competence required."
This is at Vedauwoo, WY. Brit leads the start to Edward's Crack, an area classic.
