So the EuroFreaks - that's the group I'm a part of which bases out of rockclimbing.com - had a gathering at the Pfalz area in Germany. Conveniently enough this place is only 1 hour from where I live. There are numerous sandstone towers and cliff bands hidden out in the woods. There are also numerous ticks hidden out in the woods! This picture shows the first tower we climbed on. The party on the wall is not with a us but they are on a really good 2 pitch route.
Here I'm on the route from the previous picture except this first pitch is a harder one than the standard way.
Quite alot of blank sandstone beneath me. I threw in a nut and got onto the ledge and to the anchors. Unfortunately it started to rain, so this route had to wait a few weeks to see me return.
Alot of EuroFreaks enjoying the evening. Heiko was sick the entire trip (he's in the tent behind us). Also Alec, who is with the Air Force, had to work nights, so he would drive out everyday to climb.
I look for cracks wherever I go, and the Pfalz didn't disappoint. While it's no Indian Creek, there were some good lines to be found. This one was part laybacking and part thin hands.
Finishing the crack, an easy cruise to the anchors.
Another gem of a line just around the corner. This crack was rated VII- on the UIAA scale which translates to 10c. It was also long and had some interesting cruxes.
